Stop Motion Dialogue

The Stop Motion course I'm taking has come to a close. Our final project we created was a dialogue in the theme of Aardaman's Creature Comforts (interviewing animals).

Thanks Francesco for giving me a good voice to work with. Thank you Ken for helping me. Couldn't have done it without you.

Enjoy!

The track was broken down by Ken and my ugly thumbnails make it look that much more confusing.

Hands

Here are some hands that I was working on in term two.

Expressions

Here are some short 2 -3 minute gestures as well as a few longer poses of some torso studies. I am starting to get looser and getting more life in my gestures, so improvement is always a plus. Hope you like.

This was a animal caricature assignment that followed our zoo trip in the third term. Inspirations were Ronald Searle and Stephen Silver.

I did a bunch of sketches of some animals that interested me a while ago. I wish I could tell you I did these from life, but that would be lying and that would be bad! These were drawn from photo reference… sigh.

This was a sketch I did from one of Joe Cockers CD covers.

In our fourth term we had to pitch three different stories for our final short in Flash. This is one of the stories I did and the one I chose for my final. We had to use 8 - 12 panels to tell our story. It is a tale of man's evolution, in which each successive triumph over his environment/situation only leads to new problems to solve. I think that this story would be more suited for Flash and will be more appropriate for a demo reel.

For our final in stop motion we recorded a track of one of our class mates in the style of Aardman's creature comforts. This is the character I constructed to suit the dialogue we recorded. I just have to finish all the different mouth positions and then I will be ready to animate to the track.

These are some quick and dirty shots from Francesco's i-phone.

Stop Motion

I have been taking a part time stop motion class at VANarts under Ken Priebe. It is a 12 week, once a week course where we cover the basics in stop motion. The last couple classes we were focusing on takes. Here is the test of the character I made I think it turned out alright and I had fun doing it.

Hey here is a morph I did. I kept it very simple because it was the very first morph I did. I think it turned out kind of funny.

We are still learning to animate with flash and we were given a different build this week.

The build was created by Vanarts and Animated and modified by myself.

The Jumping Sack

This was an introductory assignment that I worked on. I was to animate a jumping sack in semi rough which sounded simple enough. Now I know a lot of people might say "that's it" after they watch it but it took a lot of time and frustration during the learning process.

Deck O Cards

These three cards are from a deck that I designed a few months ago but I haven't done anything with them yet. I plan on getting them printed but funds are a little tight right now. Hopefully you will enjoy.

House Hold Sketches

Here are some fairly quick sketches of house hold things.

Life Drawing

One of the classes that I am taking is Life Drawing. We have been going over some of the basics and had a lot of technical talking. Theses sketches are some negative space sketches taken from life.

I have always hated negative space drawings and did not think they were at all relevant, but since I am not famous yet I think that I was wrong and that it really helps in keeping the proportions of whatever you are drawing.

Today I had my first look at The Vancouver Institute of Media Arts (VanArts). It was orientation day and I got to meet some really interesting people. I was happy to see the cultural diversity of my classmates and can't wait to start working tomorrow.

VanArts is located on West Pender in between Seymour and Granville St in downtown Vancouver. The school is in a very beautiful old tall build and I took a few fast shots of the school before grabbing the bus.

Tomorrow I hope I will start posting some Art.

Alnoor Sketches

Hello this was a few sketches I did for Alnoor Kassam's personal website. Not sure when it will go live, if it does because he has been away on a Journey. Regardless I wanted to get these flash drawings up.
